1.Discus your color pallet choice. Why did you choose those colors? What is the feeling or emotion conveyed by the colors used in the design.

-There are a few reasons I choose the color pallet I did. I did mostly primary colors with some oranges and variations of white in the background. I choose white because I’m a fan of neutrals. besides I believe you need neutrals to balance out the the bold colors of the red, yellow, blue, and orange. I choose these bright bold colors because they are stimulating to the appetite. which you want when you are showcasing cookies. also I wanted it to feel happy and fun. because you should be happy when you are eating cookies. Also I wanted colors that were on the box of Nilla wafers. all of the colors I pulled were from the box of cookies.

2.Explain the process you went through to choose your typography for your mini site. Did you consider effective font stacks? Was there any text you had to replace with images? Maybe you decided to work with @font-face to create some cool headings?

-I choose my typeography by looking at my box and trying to find similar type. since I knew I was going to have the logo on the web site. after that, I decided for my main text to go with a helvetica because it was simple, concise, and i felt like it didn’t take too much away from everything else.also it reflected the word “wafer” in the logo.

3.Do you foresee any challenges in the PSD to HTML/CSS conversion of your site? Were/are there any changes that need/needed to be made to make it easier? Did you make any common mistakes in web design?

-were there changes? lol I only had to practically start over from scratch because my original design wouldn’t work. I came up with a cool design that was impossible. so I simplified it, made it more streamlined, and much easier to navigate. no one will be confused with my site

1. I think that the people who will look at this site will be people who want to know who I am. they may be potential clients or employers. because as we all know, google finds everything and someone will find this site.

3. so I think I want to use my band website as a templet because it would make my life easier and I think it will work our alright. Here’s what it might look like:

I wanted to go with a grey because I think it is a good nutral. I also want to use green because I think of that as a fresh and creative color. I will most likely have blue greens to bule colors.     I think people who are coming to my web site wants to know who I am and what my work will and style looks like. that’s why on the front is so simple. have one link will have an icon that will lead to my body of works. while the other one will have a different icon that will focus on my biography and what I am like as a person

I think the first thing was about HTML in general. I have never worked with HTML or CSS in my life. One thing I know I need work on are my closings but I learned about how to make a table I used this when I made showed my album covers on my main page. Also I learned about floating which was helpful when I I wanted my album covers to float to the right and have the list of the songs on the left. I have to admit I think I am having an easier time with HTML then I am CSS but it is slowly coming together. I also learned about inserting links and linking CSS and HTML together so everything can come together.

In CSS I learned about adding in the characteristics of my web page. I couldn’t figure out how to use the colors application for CSS but I did see in w3schools.com that I could put the colors in TGB form. So I went into Photoshop and played with the colors until I found one I liked and then input the RGB code.

I also learned more about fire bug when Chris showed me how if I want to see where something is located in HTML and CSS using fire bug so I can make what adjustments I need to.

I think some things I need to work on would be my CSS. I think if I were to do this again I would have started my CSS from scratch. I ended up using Chris’ CSS file he made for his band and while that helped me it also made it harder when I was trying to figure out things down the road. but it really helped that Chris put those videos up going over different things in HTML and CSS. I was able to see what he was talking about and I understood why he made his CSS file like he did.

There was A LOT wrong with this site but there was some good points too. for one thing the Navigation links at the top of the web page were pretty good. they were clear. And I liked some of the windows that covered what was new in music and videos and such. but I thought they were in the wrong place. the ads for all the sales in the store took over the top portion of the web site. it seems cluttered and I don’t know where to look. When I looked at it I immediately wanted to leave the web site and go else where. Also there seemed to be so much room on the sides of the web sites that F.Y.E was not utilizing. Here are some Ideas we came up with.

Mine

We both decided to put the ads on the sides. it makes the web site more streamlined. I also tried to show how I would change the web site with color. I think it needs more contrasting color. so while most of the web site is blue, I would make the part of the website that surrounds all the content orange and let it fade to a softer orange. We also decided to take out one of the search engines. One of them was easy to use, made sense, and came up with lots of options that were close to what I was looking for. while the other one was harder to use, was in an inconvenient place, didn’t make much sense.

Something both Serina and I agreed on was having a drop down menu when you hoover over one of the links. Like when you hoover over DVD’s you will see a drop down menu of different genres. although our lay outs differ.

I felt like the Web site was a little wordy. Also it bothered me that what seemed like should be working links were not. or they just didn’t expand. Serina and I both agreed that the google search bar should be moved up to the top where more people will see it. also we took out the favorite links. I did renamed “web links” to “Visit our friends!” I thought if you wanted to, you could put in a few favorite links and rotate what you put in that box. This way it always seems fresh. Also I made the items listed “last week”,  ”this week” and “Next week” as working  links that will list what was released those weeks. as of now you can’t click on those to see what was released last week  or next week. Also I made the “Quick review” section into the “quick review and synopsis” section. I made a sub category for each movie and put a click-able link for the synopsis and reviews. Again I think the main difference between mine and Serina’s web pages are the lay outs. But our Quick review section  differs also. And lastly I think the logo should be different. They are located in Seattle WA. A palm tree for a logo makes no sense to me.

The first one is DSW.com ( http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/index.jsp?cm_re=Hdr-_-Home ) This site is a designer shoe store that lets you buy women’s and men’s shoes, bags online. I really like the way it is organized. This site lets you choose your shoes by color, size, and even by brand. I also like how you can go int the search by page and select the exact page you want or you can just view all of the product on one page.Or you can look up your shoes by what kind of shoe you want. whether it is  sneaker, pump, or boot, and so on. I like the color usage of the web site too. the background is white which lets the product stand out on it’s own while the writing is either in black or a sagey green. it’s seems very neutral which lets the product they are selling stand out more. The graphics are well done, and the links were also well done. My only complaint about the site when you get to the home page, you see a page that they scroll through and show you different advertisements for different kinds of shoes. I felt like they scrolled through them too fast. I felt rushed.

Another Website I like is Nordstrom.com. (http://shop.nordstrom.com/?origin=tab-logo) I like this site because when you first look at it is simple. I don’t feel overwhelmed. Everything is very neutral (except the product) and when I clicked on a link (my case it was shoes) it brought me to another page tht had broken down their shoe department for me so I can see what kind of shoe I wanted. but it didn’t stop there I clicked on the boot shop link and from there it asked me if I wanted to search for my boots by Boot height, calf width, heel height, and Brand. Being a person with some big calves that has a hard time finding boots, this was awesome. it just made my job finding a new easier. The text made it easy to read, the graphics are great. In general, this is an easy site that I like going to.

Now for the Sites I don’t care for as much.

One site I don’t care for as much is macys.com. (http://www.macys.com/) there are a lot of good things about this site. for example the site grabs your attention right away with the big red graphics. The writting is very easy to read. everything stands out nicely. The graphics are good, you can see the product very easy with it. I’m sure there are people out there that like this site. but what I really dislike bout this site is the organization. when you care looking for a product and scrolling through a department and looking at everything that department is selling that macy’s will sub categorize everything but let you look over everything on one giant page. but as you scroll through everything you’ll will see many of the products repeated. sometimes several times. it makes it seem like Macy’s has much more product then it actually has. I find this deceiving and irritating. because if I didn’t click on it the first time in the long sleeved shirt section, then I’m not going to click on it later because it’s in the sale section.

Another Web site I didn’t care for was Zappos. (http://www.zappos.com/zeta) This site felt too busy for me. It had the catagories of all of ther departments on the front page and then it had all of the sub categories underneath it. it was just too much for me. Also when I looked at the hand bag section they had a lot or purses that had a very busy print on it but it was a picture from far away. it was a small picture so I had a hard time seeing what the purse actually looked like. so I clicked on one. and it was small enough and off set enough where I still don’t feel like I got a god idea of what it looked like.

I feel like with the sites I liked they were very easy to use. they organized things effectively for me and made it easy to shop. everything was put out very simple and I did not feel overwhelmed when I looked at he first page.

What I didn’t like about the other pages was how unorganized things were. or if they were organized it was done in a way that made me feel overwhelmed and made me not want to shop. I felt like I wanted to stop what I was doing and go elsewhere.

It had a great usage of line. It esspecially stood out to me in the first sceen on the pier in his childhood. It had great line quality that made your eye move all the way to the back. It had GREAT spaec. in all of the still shots of the prisoners that had been experimented on there was alot of negative space used. it made the film see like it was close in on you and closterphobic. There was lots of value used in the space. when you are in the man’s time everything is dark and seems hopless. but when you go into the past into the pre war time everything is light and it seemed like it was hopful. like everything could be alright. and were you had your darker and lighter values, you also had shape. like the picture with one of the prisoners that loked like his eyes were sewen shut.

The only one I don’t remember seeing was texture. the narrator’s voice was monotnus and I never felt like I could reach out and feel anything in the picture. ALso there were moments in the film that were silent that led to the feeling of a lack of texture. so I think that was the element that was missing.

I think the compsitional movement worked very well. even though there were only still pictures everything seemed to move together. it all made sense. I liked how they made you focus on the woman from the past. because that was what was important to the man. everything in his being wished to be with that woman. Also it seems like if all that a film consists of are still frames that it should feel choppy. but this film did not feel that way. it felt smooth in a way like we were seeing pictures from this man’s life. like glimpses into the future. One part where this also showed movement is when the man is being tested on. you see pictures of him moving from side to side to withering in pain. I felt sorry for the man because I could see his pain and I wanted to help stop his pain.

I liked this movie alot. but now I think the movie 12 monkeys is based on this movie.

The ad I decided to use for my message is from Durex.  For those who don’t know, Durex is a brand of condom. I found this commercial on facebook, one of my friends had it on their page.

I think this ad is aimed at a younger demographic both male and female.

I believe they are using humor to get us to want to buy durex condoms.

I believe it exists in hopes we will think the commercial is so funny when we go out to buy our condom of choice and we see durex condoms, then we will decide to buy that brand.

Lastly, I think their message is if you use Durex condoms you can have sex with as many people as you want, however you want, and whenever you want.
